In December, Kraftblock held a special event in the Netherlands. Under the motto Shaping Industries for Tomorrow (SHIFT), we invited our closer international customers to Broek op Langedijk, north of Amsterdam for a small conference with a site visit to the plant at PepsiCo. More than 60 people from energy and various industries came together on December 9 and 10.

With presentations from external speakers, attendees learnt about the state and future of thermal energy storage from Ass. Prof. Dr. Abhishek Singh of University of Twente and James Lazenby, PhD from Future Cleantech Architects, a non-profit organization that develops pathways and analyzes technologies for the energy transition in every hard-to-abate sector.

360° view on Project with PepsiCo and Eneco

Together with presenters from PepsiCo and Eneco, a comprehensive view on the topic and on the Volt project could be given. It was followed by the hands-on experience of the site visit.

In addition to presentations and site visits, the SHIFT Days included a series of interactive workshops designed to promote direct exchange between the experts and professionals in the sector. Tackling the challenges and solutions of putting together a TES project, the workshop facilitated the understanding and visualizing of complex concepts, these spaces allowed for in-depth exploration of real industry challenges.

Impact and looking to the future

SHIFT Days 2025 consolidated a common vision: the decarbonization of industry is not only desirable, but technically feasible and economically competitive. Projects such as the one by Kraftblock, Eneco and PepsiCo show that solutions exist, work, and can be scaled up if there is technical and financial will and effective industry-wide collaboration.

Visitor group at the Volt project with Eneco and PepsiCo focused on the decarbonization of the food industry, specifically by replacing gas-fired boilers with an electrified thermal storage system.
