New Head for Kraftblock Heat-as-a-Service business

Martin Schichtel
CEO & Co-Gründer

Wim Janssen joined Kraftblock as Senior Vice President Energy Services in January. He will head the division offering Kraftblock’s Energy-as-a-Service model to industries. Over the past year, Kraftblock has been working with a range of partners to develop this model, which offers industries heat supply contracts as an alternative to buying energy storage plants.

Heat-as-a-Service as pathway for industrial customers

Similar to a PPA for electricity, with Heat-as-a-Service customers can purchase heat for their needs, such as steam, thermal oil and hot air at the required temperature and mass flow. This allows them to avoid the initial investment and corresponding cash out associated with the energy storage plant and its components.

Wim is an experienced energy professional who has worked in various energy sectors for three decades. He holds a MSc degree electro-mechanical engineering from the University of Leuven in Belgium and holds an MBA from the Vlerick Business School. Following his studies, he spent 11 years working for Siemens in several energy fields, including control systems for power plants and business development for cogeneration and biomass plants.

“Joining Kraftblock is exciting as I think their thermal energy storage technology is a crucial piece of the puzzle for industrial decarbonisation. I am excited to contribute to the realisation of this piece by enabling the roll out of it through the HaaS model", Wim explains his motivation to come on board.

After Siemens Wim fulfilled a broad range of roles in different renewable energy technologies and SMEs, most of them being Energy Service Companys (ESCO). Taking into account his experience from finance, engineering, project management and business development roles in energy service companies, Kraftblock CEO Martin Schichtel is convinced: “Wim is an excellent addition to the Kraftblock leadership team and will ignite the Heat-as-a-Service model for Kraftblock’s customers.”
