Whitepaper with image of flare gas. Title is Thermal Energy Storage in the Steel Industry from Kraftblock a heat battery manufcaturer.

In this whitepaper we anylse the opportunities of waste heat recovery with Thermal Storage. As unused waste heat is often fluctuating, or does not match the schedule of nearby processes, a buffer both in time and thermal power alllows for new possibilities to increase energy efficiency and optimise the use of energy. This not only reduces carbon emission from fossil fuels but also costs. As Kraftblock is able to recover waste heat between 300 °C and 1,300 °C, the possibility of using high-grade waste heat is especially relevant.

In the paper, the use case of Kraftblock at Tata Steel in a Sinter Cooler is discussed. In the end, opportunities for electrification with Kraftblock are also analysed. Topics in the whitepaper include:

  • Sinter Cooler
  • EAF off-gas
  • Flare Gase
  • Pellet Induration
  • Reheating Furnaces
  • Ladle Preheating
  • Coke Dry Quenching
  • Other sources like slag and BOF off-gas
  • Utilisation of waste heat in Scrap and DRI preheating

Also the electrification of process heat as steam or hot air is discussed, and especially the processes of hot-blast stoves are viewed upon. Download to learn more about the opportunity of heat batteries for waste heat recovery.
